A leading telecom operator engaged RT-RK to provide a comprehensive Device Management Solution (DMS) for managing connected electric two-wheelers. The solution was intended to support the commercial launch of the operator’s first OEM deployment, providing secure device management, remote diagnostics, telemetry, and analytics at scale.

The Challenge

The customer faced several operational and technical challenges:

  • Efficiently managing a geographically distributed fleet of connected two-wheelers
  • Ensuring secure and scalable device onboarding and lifecycle management
  • Coping with intermittent connectivity and variable network conditions
  • Minimizing field service interventions through effective remote diagnostics
  • Implementing over-the-air software updates reliably
  • Gaining meaningful fleet-level analytics without excessive data costs

Existing off-the-shelf solutions lacked the flexibility and scalability required for this use case, and no operator-grade DMS had yet been deployed for two-wheelers at scale.

Solution Provided

To address these challenges, RT-RK delivered a customized Device Management Solution built on managed cloud infrastructure, providing the following key elements:

Cloud DMS Platform

A cloud-native backend platform hosted on AWS, offering:

  • Secure device registry and lifecycle management
  • Telemetry ingestion, storage, and analysis
  • Remote command execution and control
  • OTA software update orchestration
  • Fleet-level dashboards and KPI monitoring

Device-side Connectivity Agent

A lightweight, cross-platform SDK integrated into the two-wheeler device that:

  • Abstracts device capabilities through a flexible data model
  • Ensures secure connectivity to the cloud platform
  • Supports intelligent telemetry reporting and “live mode” interactive sessions
  • Enables log collection, remote commands, and crash/event reporting

BackOffice Web Application

A centralized administrative portal providing:

  • Fleet health and status dashboards
  • Remote debugging and diagnostics interfaces
  • KPI visualizations and exportable reports
  • Application usage insights based on device interaction time

The solution also included well-defined APIs enabling integration with backend systems and third-party tools.

RT-RK’s Device Management Solution delivered a production-ready platform that enabled the operator to:
