In the automotive industry, we have closely observed how service-oriented architecture (SOA) transforms automotive software development, making the shift towards Android more crucial than ever. With its extensive app ecosystem, strong market demand, and ability to address in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) fragmentation, Android offers immense potential. However, automotive stakeholders are still not completely satisfied with the differentiation of Android Automotive from other Android flavors to unlock true car-centric apps and pave the way to a centralized architecture. They still value the platform and often choose Google through Google Automotive Services (GAS) to offer a high-quality, connected in-car experience. Balancing these advantages with the drawbacks of inadequate brand differentiation, data ownership and privacy concerns, dependency on Google, app ecosystem control, market perception, and regulatory issues is key for OEMs when deciding to adopt this platform.
